Outreach   The congregation of the South Yarmouth United Methodist Church is committed to putting our faith and love into action by attempting to address the needs of our community and the world.   Pastor’s Discretionary Fund We give to and raise money for the pastor’s discretionary fund, which enables him to give food certificates and other assistance to people in need.   Nights of Hospitality We provide nights of hospitality for the homeless. This involves transporting homeless people who wish to stay overnight in our church, providing food and blankets, and sharing the communal sleeping area in the church parish hall.   Habitat for Humanity In addition to building a house for Habitat for Humanity in South Yarmouth, we have renewed our covenant with Habitat and sponsor fund-raising efforts to raise money for more builds. One of our members helped build a Habitat house for Katrina victims.   Dennis-Yarmouth Ecumenical Council (DYECH) We participate in many activities of the Dennis-Yarmouth Ecumenical Council for the Prevention of Homelessness, which is approaching the one-million-dollar mark of funds raised. Our activities include selling food certificates every Sunday, from which local supermarkets contribute 5% of all money collected to DYECH. One of our members guides the Annual Ham and Bean Supper for DYECH and many of our members participate.   Housing Assistance Corporation Our church participates in the annual Housing Assistance Corporation Walk for the Homeless and Homeless Prevention.   Council of Churches We support the Council of Churches in many ways, including conducting a Diaper Drive for the Baby Center.   Other Helping Organizations We participate in the Christmas Child Shoebox ministry of the Samaritan’s Purse and sponsor a Thanksgiving Collection for Bread for The World, which encourages our senators and representatives to pass legislation to help feed hungry people in our country and around the world.
